MATCH REPORT
by Nixie

This should be quite a short match report, well more of a summing up really.

1st HALF LINE-UP

Bluntly - Glyn deserved to win and we deserved to lose.

As a team, they won every 50/50 and every header. They pounced on our mistakes and forced even more by denying us space and time in every area of the pitch. They talked to and encouraged each other throughout, while we were very quiet... apart from the usual voices. A few of our players stood up to be counted, but not enough to make a difference and is something we really need to work on to make sure we get it right in time for next season.

But... not for the first time this season, we lost a match to a physical side, where our players were fouled throughout, received very little protection from their referee... and we as a team shied away from the physical contest.

We gave away two poor early goals before even thinking to get going. On twenty minutes, Ian Lyons received a knee-high challenge on the edge of Glyn's box, which their referee didn't even blow for and resulted in Ian being carried off, his knee swelling up like a balloon. Five minutes later we were denied a nail-on penalty when Vien was two-footed by their keeper... again no whistle... and it just wasn't going to be our day.

The most galling aspect for me was that we allowed ourselves to be intimidated and in truth we looked a very small team out there. Glyn were up for a hard game and we weren't.

2nd HALF LINE-UP

Three horrendous tackles on Christian Denison in the space of 15 minutes were given as fouls, but not on a single occasion did their referee feel it necessary to speak with the perpetrators... and when we complained, the Glyn skipper gave some weird excuse that although bad fouls they weren't vindictive. Obviously their referee didn't carry two colour-coded cards with him... one for bad tackles and another for vindictive tackles.

The worst foul of the game though was on Richard Sturdy, who was deliberately elbowed in the face (again their referee gave the foul but took no action), which made the Glyn skipper feel at least embarrassed enough to put the offender in gaol (is that a spelling mistake?).

Not a game that will linger in the memory .

Like what you see here? Want to play? Want to become a member?

So... not a good result. Oh well, at least we got to enjoy the rugby!

MAN OF THE MATCH RESULT

Congratulations to CHRISTIAN DENISON for winning the award, who despite being singled out for some particularly rough treatment, carried on with determination. The third bad tackle almost finished him, but he recovered enough to get us through the game with 11 men. Until that tackle, he had been one of our few threats by constantly running at his marker (who gave the term a literal meaning). Vien came second with another determined display. Very vocal, and despite a lack of any sort of service, he tried everything he could to get us back into the game.
