(Saturday, 20 October2007)

MATCH REPORT
by Vien Phan

With usual ‘keeper Tim away, Dave Tryhorn was the man between the sticks in this game. Compromising players preferred positions was the theme for the afternoon, as the squad was affected by new players, late arrivals and injuries.

1st HALF LINE-UP

Whits started well, and created a few good chances in the opening 15 minutes. Dean Moss playing up front closed space down well, and forced their keeper to make some saves. One of his attempts was parried by the keeper into Richard Ferguson's path, who put away the difficult aerial ball into the net with aplomb.

John Fisher's equaliser came from sustained pressure, and as Whits failed to adequately clear the ball, it was crossed back into the box to their right winger, who lost his marker and volleyed very well past Dave Tryhorn from 10 yards.

Whits 2nd goal came from a goal kick, which was controlled and passed to Tegg from Phan. As Tegg was tackled on the edge of the box, Michael Ferguson got to the ball first and shot into the corner of the net. A very well taken goal.

As half time approached, Phan fouled Fisher's right winger from a throw in. The free kick was floated to the far post, and Chris Stafford Hill was out jumped by a Fisher player who nodded in from 2 yards.

2nd HALF LINE-UP

In the 2nd half, the game was not of a particularly high standard, and Whits failed to be composed on the ball, and play to our potential. Fisher stuck to their game plan well, and took advantage of our weakness from set pieces, and an inswinging corner resulted in a goal, despite Stafford Hill's efforts to clear on the line.

Tegg had a good one on one chance following a flick on from Redley which he failed to convert, as the ball went over the cross bar. Redley also had a few half chances, but his attempts were off target.

The game finished 2-3, with Fisher arguably deserving of the win, punishing our defensive mistakes, and lack of clinical finishing.
